How to add and manage contact categories in Planyard

Planyard includes a lightweight CRM for managing companies and their contact persons. These contacts are used across purchase orders, subcontracts, and invoices to ensure that the correct suppliers and partners are linked to each document. Contacts can be sorted into custom categories.

How contact categories work

Planyard separates contact data into two levels:

1. Companies – the organizations you work with.
2. Contacts – the people tied to each company.

Categories are applied only to contacts, not companies. This allows one company to have multiple contacts under different categories — for example, one electrician and one plumber under the same subcontractor.

How to add or edit contact categories

1. Go to Contacts in the top menu.
2. Open the Contacts tab.
3. Click the contact from the list that you want to categorize.
4. On the left side, review the contact details.
5. At the bottom, find the Categories section.
6. Click the pencil icon to edit.
7. Tick the boxes for the categories you want to apply.
8. Click Save.

The selected categories will now be assigned to the contact. The associated company will automatically reflect these categories as well.
