How to add retention to client contracts

Retention on a client contract can be configured either during contract creation or after the fact from the contract summary. You can apply it as a flat percentage or manage it manually per invoice or valuation.

1. Add retention while creating the client contract

1. Navigate to the relevant project and open the Client Contracts tab.
2. Click Create new client contract and fill in the required fields (contract name, company, etc.).
3. Choose one of the following options:
   • Add contract retainage:
     • Enter a name for the retention (e.g. “Retention”).
     • Enter the retention percentage. This will be automatically applied to all invoices and valuations generated against the contract.
   • Manually book retention:
     • Enter a name for the retention.
     • Leave the percentage unset. You will enter the retained amount manually for each invoice or valuation.
4. Continue filling in the remaining fields and save the contract.

2. Add retention to an existing client contract

1. Navigate to the relevant project and open the Client Contracts tab.
2. Open the relevant contract.
3. Go to the Summary tab and scroll down to the Total retention booked section.
4. Choose one of the following options:
   • Add contract retainage — enter a name and a flat retention percentage to apply automatically going forward.
   • Manually book retention — enter a name and manage the retained amount per invoice or valuation.
